Olympus OM40 Program FAQ

  • The OM40 sits in the consumer side of the Olympus OM system but adds Program exposure and Olympus's ESP metering idea. It keeps the compact OM feel while making exposure easier than an OM-1.

  • It is the clever, slightly overlooked OM body: more automated than the classic mechanical models, but still small, light and connected to the excellent Zuiko lens system.

  • Choose it if you like the OM10 idea but want a more capable body with Program automation. It is good for travel and everyday shooting where you want the camera to help with exposure.

  • It uses Olympus OM-mount Zuiko lenses. Small Zuiko primes are especially nice because they keep the whole setup compact and balanced.

  • Use Program mode when moving quickly, then switch to more deliberate control when the light gets interesting. The OM40 is best when you let it be quick but still pay attention.
