Olympus XA-2 FAQ

The XA-2 is premium in design intelligence rather than luxury materials. It belongs to the Maitani-designed XA family, with a clamshell body that protects the lens and makes the camera genuinely pocketable.
It uses scale focus rather than autofocus. You choose a distance zone, which sounds old-fashioned, but it makes the camera extremely fast once you learn the common settings.
The cover protects the lens and turns the camera into a smooth pocket object. It is one of those designs that feels obvious only after someone clever invented it.
Buy it if you like quiet, small cameras and do not mind learning zone focus. It is excellent for street photography because it is fast, discreet and easy to carry all day.
Set it to the middle distance zone for general street shooting, then adjust only when subjects are clearly close or far away. That makes the XA-2 feel almost instant.
