The XD5 is the simpler sibling of the celebrated XD/XD7/XD11 family. That family is loved for offering both aperture-priority and shutter-priority automation in a refined metal body.

The XD series was developed during Minolta's collaboration era with Leica, and its design influenced the Leica R4. The XD5 carries some of that smooth, compact, premium feel in a more modest form.

Choose it if you want a manual-focus Minolta with a more elegant feel than the later plastic-bodied cameras. It suits photographers who like aperture priority but still want a classic body.

Compared with the higher XD7, the XD5 removes some premium viewfinder/display features. The upside is that it keeps the core shooting experience in a simpler package.

Minolta MD and Rokkor primes are the natural match. A 45mm or 50mm lens keeps the camera compact and gives it a very classic everyday feel.
