Canon EOS 5000 FAQ

  • It is a very simple mid-1990s EF-mount autofocus SLR, built around one main top dial, automatic modes and a built-in flash. The quirk is that it behaves almost like a point-and-shoot, but still takes proper Canon EF lenses.

  • Use it if you want the look of 35mm film with modern autofocus habits. It is happiest with lightweight EF lenses and daylight travel, family photos and casual portraits.

  • It does not offer the same manual aperture control as more advanced EOS bodies, so it is best for people who want Canon automation rather than a fully manual learning camera.

  • It uses Canon EF lenses, the autofocus mount Canon introduced with the EOS system. That means you get electronic aperture control and lens-driven autofocus rather than the older FD manual-focus system.

  • It is best for easy 35mm shooting: travel, portraits, everyday scenes and anyone who wants film with familiar autofocus SLR handling.
