In celebration of its anniversary, Contax released the Contax T3 70 Years Limited Edition, produced in a strictly limited run. This special edition retains the renowned titanium body of the T3, complemented by exclusive anniversary engravings and refined detailing, making it a highly sought-after collector’s piece among film photography enthusiasts.

In 2001, Contax quietly unveiled something extraordinary — the T3. Not just another camera, but a love-letter to what happens when precision meets purpose. It was born at the end of the film-camera era, a time when digital was already whispering promises of convenience. Yet the T3 didn’t follow the crowd. It demanded attention in silence.

Engineered under the Kyocera/Zeiss partnership, the T3 took everything that made the earlier T series beloved and refined it. It inherited the premium feel: titanium body, razor-sharp Zeiss optics. But Contax’s designers pushed further. They reduced the size, reworked the lens into a 6-element Sonnar 35 mm f/2.8, sharpened autofocus, improved handling. It was built not just to take pictures, but to spark desire every time you touched it

  • The T3 is smaller and uses a redesigned Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm lens, while the T2 uses a 38mm Sonnar. The T3 also feels more refined and pocketable, with a more modern autofocus-era design.

  • 35mm is a classic everyday focal length: wider than the T2's 38mm, useful for streets and travel, but still natural for people. It is one reason the T3 became so coveted.

  • Buy it if you want one of the most collectible versions of an already elite compact. It is best for someone who understands both the shooting value and the collector value.

  • It deserves careful use. A camera this special should be protected, but it is still a superb photographic tool, and the best way to understand a T3 is to put film through it.
